LaVar Ball lost his leg due to complications from diabetes. He developed an infection on his right foot that spread through his bloodstream because he did not properly manage his diabetes. This infection led to multiple surgeries where doctors had to first amputate a few toes, then his foot, and finally a portion of his leg nearly up to the knee. In total, he underwent three surgeries and four blood transfusions to address the infection. LaVar himself admitted that the amputation could have been prevented if he had paid better attention to his diabetes. Despite the severity of his condition, he has shown resilience and credited his sons for helping him through the difficult time.
