This was also a form of punishment for Daedalus's role in helping Pasiphaë and creating the Labyrinth, and possibly for aiding Ariadne and Theseus. In essence, Minos's desire was to keep the Labyrinth's secrets safe and to prevent Daedalus's cleverness from undermining his authority by escaping or helping others to escape.
