Minos thought that if Daedalus couldn't find his way out of the Labyrinth, "so much the better" because Daedalus was the designer of the Labyrinth and thus knew its secrets. Minos believed that keeping Daedalus trapped inside would prevent him from using his ingenuity against the king or revealing the Labyrinth's design, thereby ensuring control and security. This was also a form of punishment for Daedalus's role in helping Pasiphaë and creating the Labyrinth, and possibly for aiding Ariadne and Theseus. In essence, Minos's desire was to keep the Labyrinth's secrets safe and to prevent Daedalus's cleverness from undermining his authority by escaping or helping others to escape.
