Frogs croak primarily as a form of communication, especially for mating purposes. Male frogs croak to attract female frogs by advertising themselves as potential mates, often near water bodies where breeding takes place. Each frog species has a unique call to ensure they attract females of the same species. The croaking sound is produced by the frog filling special vocal sacs with air and forcing it out through the throat, causing their vocal cords to vibrate and create amplified sounds. Additionally, frogs may croak in response to physical stimuli, to warn others, or to establish territory. They also tend to croak more after rain when conditions are ideal for breeding and frogs are more active and vocal.
