We celebrate Ellen Ochoa for her pioneering achievements as the first Hispanic woman to travel into space, her remarkable career as an astronaut with four space shuttle flights totaling nearly 1,000 hours in orbit, and her significant contributions to NASA as a leader. She was also the first Hispanic and the second female director of NASA's Johnson Space Center, where she promoted innovation and inclusion. Ochoa is recognized for her technical expertise, including being a co-inventor on three patents, and has received numerous prestigious awards such as NASA’s Distinguished Service Medal and the Hispanic Heritage Leadership Award. Additionally, several schools across the United States bear her name in honor of her inspiring legacy in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
