• Mineral and Limescale Buildup: Hard water causes mineral deposits (like calcium) to build up inside the shower head nozzles and around seals. This blocks water flow, creating pressure that forces water to leak out from seams or connections.
• Loose or Damaged Threads: The connection threads between the shower arm and shower head can become loose or damaged, preventing a secure fit and causing leaks even after tightening.
• Worn Shower Valve or Cartridge: If the shower drips even when the water is turned off, the internal shower valve or cartridge may be faulty, allowing water to seep through. This is generally a more complex repair.
• Damaged Shower Hose or Connections: Cracks or splits in a handheld shower hose or its connectors can cause leaks that may seem to come from the shower head.

You can diagnose the cause by observing where the leak is coming from:

• A drip at the connection usually points to a worn washer or loose threads.
• Water leaking from the faceplate or holes usually means mineral buildup and clogged nozzles.
• Drips even when water is off suggest valve problems.

Fixes can include replacing the washer, cleaning the shower head with vinegar to remove limescale, tightening or repairing connections, or replacing faulty valves or hoses.
