Snapchat is not working due to a major Amazon Web Services (AWS) outage that has disrupted multiple major apps and websites since October 20, 2025. AWS hosts much of the internet’s backend infrastructure, including storage and network services used by Snapchat. This outage caused “significant error rates” in AWS’s data storage service (DynamoDB) within the US-EAST-1 region , which has affected global access to apps like Snapchat, Slack, Signal, Roblox, and even government and financial websites.
What You Can Do
While Snapchat’s downtime is related to AWS’s server-side problems, there are still some troubleshooting steps you can try locally :
- Check Downdetector or similar sites to confirm if others are experiencing issues.
- Restart Snapchat or your phone —in rare cases, caching or memory issues can compound outage symptoms.
- Check for app updates through your device’s app store.
- Verify your internet connection , switching between mobile data and Wi‑Fi.
- Clear Snapchat’s cache from settings to remove corrupted data (this will not delete your Snaps or Chats).
- Ensure Snapchat has camera and network permissions enabled if some features aren’t responding.
However, since the outage originates from AWS servers and not user devices, full functionality will only return once Amazon restores its systems. AWS engineers are currently working to mitigate and resolve the root cause.
