Debbie Brockman, a producer for WGN-TV in Chicago, was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Border Patrol agents on October 10, 2025, during a law enforcement action in the Lincoln Square neighborhood. The DHS stated that she was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a federal law enforcement officer, allegedly after throwing objects at a Border Patrol vehicle. However, witnesses said that agents claimed she was detained for obstruction, which she denied. Brockman was forcibly pinned to the ground by masked federal agents before being placed in an unmarked van and taken away. No charges were ultimately brought against her, and she was later released. This arrest took place shortly after a federal judge issued a temporary restraining order barring federal agents in the Northern District of Illinois from using force or arresting journalists unless there was credible evidence of a crime.
