According to Islamic scholarly consensus, صلاة الجمعة (Friday prayer) begins after zawaal (the sun passing its zenith) and ends with the end of the time for the Dhuhr prayer, i.e., when the time for Asr begins. The majority of scholars hold that the Friday prayer should occur after the sun has passed its zenith, and it ends at the onset of Asr time. Some jurists, notably within certain schools, discuss slight variations, including the possibility of performing the Friday prayer somewhat before and near zenith in specific contexts, but the dominant position is that Friday prayer time is the same as the Dhuhr time and ends with the beginning of Asr. If the Friday prayer is missed, one should perform the Dhuhr prayer instead. This aligns with the standard rulings found in classical fiqh and contemporary fatwas, and is the practical guidance observed in most mosques today.
