Aaron Hernandez was a professional NFL player who played as a tight end for the New England Patriots. He was arrested in 2013 and charged with the first- degree murder of Odin Lloyd, a semi-professional football player who was dating the sister of Hernandez's fiancée. Hernandez was found guilty of this murder in 2015 and sentenced to life in prison without parole. He was also indicted for a 2012 double homicide but was acquitted of those charges. In 2017, five days after being acquitted of the double homicide, Hernandez died by suicide in his prison cell. After his death, he was posthumously diagnosed with chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a brain condition linked to repeated head trauma, which has raised questions about its impact on his behavior.
