To reach the center of the Earth, drilling would have to go about 6,371 kilometers (3,959 miles) deep. The deepest hole ever drilled by humans, the Kola Superdeep Borehole in Russia, reached only about 12.3 kilometers (7.6 miles), which is just 0.19% of the distance to the center. Drilling to the center is currently impossible due to extreme heat, which reaches about 5,505 degrees Celsius (9,941 degrees Fahrenheit), and immense pressure, around 360,000 times atmospheric pressure. These conditions would destroy any known drilling equipment or drill bit material. Additionally, the time and technical challenges to drill even through the Earth's crust (about 30-60 km thick) and mantle (about 2,900 km thick) are enormous, making reaching the Earth's core infeasible with current technology.
