To take a screenshot on a Dell laptop, you have several easy methods:
Using Keyboard Shortcuts
- Full screen screenshot saved automatically: Press Windows key + PrtSc (Print Screen) together. The screen will briefly dim, and the screenshot will be saved to the Pictures > Screenshots folder on your laptop
- Full screen screenshot copied to clipboard: Press the PrtSc key alone (sometimes you need to press Fn + PrtSc depending on your keyboard). This copies the full screen to the clipboard, and you can paste it (Ctrl + V) into an image editor like Paint or a document
- Active window screenshot: Press Alt + PrtSc (or Alt + Fn + PrtSc if needed). This captures only the active window and copies it to the clipboard for pasting elsewhere
- Custom area screenshot: Press Windows key + Shift + S to open the Snipping Tool (Snip & Sketch). You can then select a rectangular, free-form, window, or full-screen snip. The screenshot is copied to the clipboard for pasting
Using the Snipping Tool
- Open the Snipping Tool by typing "Snipping Tool" in the Start menu search.
- Click "New" and select the type of snip you want (rectangular, free-form, window, or full screen).
- Capture the desired area, then save or edit the screenshot as needed
Additional Option: Game Bar
- Press Windows key + G to open the Game Bar.
- Click the camera icon to take a screenshot, which is saved automatically
Notes
- On some Dell laptops, the Print Screen key may be labeled as PrtSc , PrtScn , or may be combined with a function key like F10. You might need to hold down the Fn key while pressing PrtSc to activate it
These methods work on most Dell laptops running Windows 10 or Windows 11
