To unsend a text message on an iPhone, follow these steps:
- Open the Messages app and go to the conversation containing the message you want to unsend.
- Touch and hold the message bubble you want to unsend.
- Tap "Undo Send" from the menu that appears.
You have up to 2 minutes after sending the message to unsend it. Once you do, a note will appear in both your and the recipient's conversation indicating that the message was unsent, and the message will be removed from the recipient's device-provided they are also using iOS 16 or later. If the recipient is on an earlier iOS version, they may still see the original message along with a notification that you unsent it
. Important details:
- This feature works only for iMessages (blue bubbles), not for SMS or MMS (green bubbles).
- Both sender and recipient must be on iOS 16 or later for the message to be fully removed.
- After 2 minutes, you can no longer unsend the message.
- If the recipient has already read the message, unsending may not prevent them from seeing it
