Starbucks announced it will close roughly 1% of its stores in North America by the end of fiscal year 2025. This amounts to over 180 store closures in the U.S. and Canada. Some estimates place the total closures closer to around 400 stores when including all types of locations. The closures come as part of a $1 billion restructuring plan aimed at improving financial performance and customer experience. Along with the closures, about 900 non-retail corporate employees will be laid off. Starbucks plans to end the year with nearly 18,300 stores in North America after these closures and some store openings. Efforts are being made to relocate affected employees to nearby stores when possible, with severance offered otherwise.
