Australia has six states. These are New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, Western Australia, South Australia, and Tasmania. In addition to the states, Australia also has two main territories: the Northern Territory and the Australian Capital Territory. The six states are self-governing with their own constitutions, governments, and legislatures.
