To erase your iPhone and restore it to factory settings, follow these steps:
1. Back Up Your Data
Before erasing, back up your iPhone to iCloud, your computer, or another backup service to save your photos, videos, and files for later restoration
2. Erase Directly on the iPhone
- Open Settings.
- Tap General > Transfer or Reset iPhone.
- Select Erase All Content and Settings.
- If prompted, enter your iPhone passcode and Apple ID password to confirm.
- Choose whether to erase your eSIM or keep it (erasing the eSIM requires contacting your carrier to reactivate cellular service).
- Confirm the erase action and wait for the process to complete. Your iPhone will restart as a new device
3. Erase Using a Computer (Mac or Windows)
- Connect your iPhone to your computer with a USB cable.
- On a Mac with macOS Catalina or later, open Finder; on Windows or older macOS, open iTunes or Apple Devices app.
- Select your iPhone in the sidebar.
- Click Restore iPhone and confirm.
- Note: If Find My iPhone is enabled, you must sign out before restoring
Additional Tips
- If you plan to sell or give away your iPhone, it’s recommended to delete the eSIM during the erase process.
- After erasing, remove any physical SIM card.
- Double-check that your device is removed from your Apple ID/iCloud to prevent activation lock for the new owner
This process securely deletes all personal data, apps, and settings, returning the iPhone to its factory default state
