Hromadske (Ukrainian: Громадське, meaning "Public") is an independent, non- governmental online media organization in Ukraine founded by a group of 15 journalists in June 2013. It officially began broadcasting on November 22, 2013. Registered as an NGO, Hromadske was created to provide unbiased, objective news and investigative journalism, independent from government control or private interests. It gained widespread popularity during the 2013-2014 Euromaidan protests due to its timely and critical coverage. Hromadske's funding comes from a combination of private donations and grants from international entities, including embassies and foundations such as the Netherlands Embassy, the US Embassy, Canada, the International Renaissance Foundation, and others. The outlet includes both Ukrainian and English- language content, with an English version called Hromadske International launched in 2014 to highlight Ukrainian news to global audiences. It is headquartered in Kyiv, Ukraine, and operates primarily as an internet broadcaster with content available in video and multimedia formats. Over the years, Hromadske has maintained a focus on transparency and journalistic ethics, although it has faced internal controversies regarding funding and management. Its mission centers on public interest reporting, providing a platform for social engagement through media. The organization remains a prominent source for independent news in Ukraine.
