In netball, there are seven specific playing positions, each with unique roles and designated areas on the court where players can move. The positions and their court allowances are as follows:
- Goal Shooter (GS): Allowed only in the attacking goal third, including the shooting circle. Their main role is to score goals.
- Goal Attack (GA): Allowed in the attacking and center thirds, including the shooting circle. They assist in scoring and setting up attacking plays.
- Wing Attack (WA): Allowed in the center and attacking thirds, but not in the shooting circle. They feed the ball into the shooting circle.
- Center (C): Allowed anywhere on the court except both shooting circles. They link defense and attack.
- Wing Defense (WD): Allowed in the center and defensive thirds but not in the shooting circle. They defend against the opposing wing attack.
- Goal Defense (GD): Allowed in the center and defensive thirds, including the shooting circle. They defend against the goal attack and help in goal defense.
- Goal Keeper (GK): Allowed only in the defensive goal third, including the shooting circle. Their role is to defend against the opposing goal shooter.
Each position has restrictions on where players can move, ensuring strategic play and adherence to the rules of netball.
