In music, EP stands for "Extended Play". It is a musical release that is longer than a single but shorter than a full-length album. EPs typically contain between 2-5 songs and are under 30 minutes in length. They are often used as a way to introduce an artist to fans and to introduce a new sound. EPs are also a great way to experiment with new ideas, as they are generally shorter and less expensive to produce. EPs can be released as prequels for upcoming albums, building awareness and excitement around the bigger project that is soon to come, making them excellent marketing tools. EPs are also created to showcase a new band who don’t want to go all out just yet with a full album. The difference between an EP and an LP (Long Playing) is that an LP generally has more than 8 tracks, whereas an EP has 4-6 tracks.
