In torrenting, peers refer to the number of users that have the file and are seeding (sharing) . A peer is someone who is both downloading and uploading the file in the swarm. When a user downloads some pieces of the file, they become a peer and can begin sharing the parts they have with others while still downloading the remaining portion of the file. Users are called peers because none of them have more authority on the network than the others. The group of users currently in the same torrent is called a swarm, which includes those who are leeching and those who are seeding. A seed is someone who has 100% of the file and is uploading it. A leech is someone who is downloading the file and isnt uploading any parts of the file at all. If the torrent file has a healthy number of peers, it should result in faster and more reliable file transfer and a quality streaming experience. If the torrent file has zero or few peers, you may experience buffering, or may not be able to view the file at all.
