Olympia is in Thurston County, which is located in the state of Washington in the United States. Thurston County was carved out of Lewis County in 1852 and named after Samuel R. Thurston, the first delegate to Congress from the Oregon Territory, which later became Washington. Olympia is the county seat and the largest city in Thurston County.
