The Budget for 2024 in Ireland was announced on Tuesday, October 10, 2023. The speech was made by Minister for Finance Michael McGrath and Minister for Public Expenditure Paschal Donohoe at 1 pm in Leinster House. The total cost of Budget 2024 is around €6.4 billion, with taxation measures worth €1.1 billion of the total. Some of the changes announced in the Budget came into effect immediately, such as increases to the cost of cigarettes, while others took place before the end of 2023, like the once-off Fuel Allowance and the double payment of Child Benefit. Most of the social welfare increases and the tax and USC changes took effect from the beginning of January 2024. Other changes will be later in 2024, like the extra two weeks of Parent’s leave and Benefit. Many others have to be finalized before coming into effect.
