Orange Shirt Day in 2025 falls on Tuesday, September 30. This day is also recognized as the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in Canada. It is a day to honor the experiences of Indigenous children who were taken to residential schools and to reflect on the legacy of the residential school system. Orange Shirt Day has been observed annually on September 30 since 2013, symbolized by the orange shirt that Phyllis Jack Webstad, a residential school survivor, wore and had taken away on her first day of school. Many events and commemorative activities take place on this day across Canada to promote awareness, reconciliation, and honor survivors.
