In 2010, Stephanie Rice posted a tweet using a homophobic slur on Twitter after the Wallabies last-gasp win over South Africa. She tweeted: Suck on that ... faggots!. The tweet attracted criticism from gay actor and former Australian rugby league star Ian Roberts, who labelled Rice a "complete idiot". Rice later apologized and deleted the tweet, and she offered a wrenching apology to those offended by the message she posted. She dissolved in tears as she explained herself for the tweet which saw critics label her a homophobic idiot. The tweet cost Rice an endorsement contract with luxury carmaker Jaguar. Recently, in a teaser for SAS Australia 2023, she reflected on how the tweet drastically altered her life, despite the high of winning three gold medals at the Beijing Olympics.
