Soul Coins are a unique and valuable form of currency and power supply utilized in the Nine Hells of Baldur’s Gate 3. They are generated when a soul is ensnared within a coin, which is then used by devils and their allies as a means of trade and can be exchanged for an array of items and resources. Here are some things that Soul Coins can do:
-
Power Infernal Engines: Soul Coins can power an infernal engine up to 24 hours per charge left in the coin upon consuming it. Thus, you only need to use one per long rest.
-
Drain Life: A creature carrying the coin can use its action to expend 1 charge from a soul coin and use it to siphon away some of the souls essence and gain 1d10 temporary hit points.
-
Give Karlach a Damage Buff: Soul Coins can be used to give Karlach, a fierce barbarian who was forced to fight in the Blood War, a damage buff after you recruit her to your party. When Karlach uses a Soul Coin, she gains the Infernal Fury buff, which gives her an extra 1d4 fire damage when she Rages or when she drops below 25% Health. This is a passive buff and lasts until you take a Long Rest.
Soul Coins can be found while exploring and completing quests across the world of Baldurs Gate 3. Some locations where you can find Soul Coins include:
- Two Soul Coins in a chest under Peartree’s Home in the Lower City.
- Five Soul Coins in a dungeon called House of Hope.
- Three Soul Coins in Moonrise Towers in Act 2, provided you have Karlach in your party and speak to the Bugbear, Lann Tarv.
- One Soul Coin in Philgraves Mansion, close to the Heapside Strand waypoint, in the Lower City during Act 3.
- Treasure crates behind the true soul bugbear leaders throne.
Its worth noting that Soul Coins are highly valued by devils and are used among the infernal hierarchy to barter for favors, bribe the unwilling, and reward the faithful for services rendered.
