Orange County Choppers (OCC) is an American motorcycle manufacturer and lifestyle brand company based in the town of Newburgh, located in Orange County, New York, that was founded in 1999 by Paul Teutul Sr. The company was featured on American Chopper, a reality TV show that debuted in September 2002 on the Discovery Channel. The series moved to Discovery Channels sister channel TLC in 2007. Following cancellation of the Discovery series, the company was also featured on Orange County Choppers on the CMT network in 2013. Orange County Choppers returned to Discovery Channel in March 2018.
OCC was hit hard by the Great Recession of the late 2000s, which caused corporate clients to cut back on extravagant bikes, and regular consumers to similarly cut back on excess spending. Shortly before the end of the original "American Chopper" series, OCC was no longer able to afford its sprawling 92,000 square foot headquarters. It was surrendered to the mortgage lender, though the company continued to occupy part of the building on a lease. In 2018, Paul Sr. filed for bankruptcy with the release of the American Choppers reboot. He moved to Florida and announced that Orange County Choppers, based in New York state since its inception, would be based out of Florida.
