According to the latest news, gases from Taal Volcano in the Philippines have sickened dozens of children, prompting school closures in nearby towns. The emission of sulfur dioxide-laden steam from the volcano caused skin, throat, and eye irritation for at least 45 students in nearby towns. Classes were suspended in 25 towns and cities in Batangas to keep students safely at home. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said that there was no imminent threat of a major eruption of Taal Volcano, which remains at a low level of unrest in Batangas province south of Manila. However, the smog from the volcano has been affecting nearby communities and drifting towards the Philippines capital Manila since the first week of September 2023.
