7-OH, or 7-Hydroxymitragynine, is a highly potent alkaloid found primarily in the kratom plant (Mitragyna speciosa). It acts mainly on opioid receptors in the brain, particularly as a partial agonist at μ-opioid receptors, making it about 13 times more potent than morphine and about 10 times more potent than mitragynine, another kratom alkaloid. 7-OH is produced in humans as an active metabolite of mitragynine through liver metabolism. It produces strong analgesic, sedative, mood-enhancing, and euphoric effects resembling opioids, but it also carries significant risks of dependence, addiction, rapid tolerance, and withdrawal symptoms. Concentrated 7-OH products have been increasingly regulated and warned against by health authorities due to their opioid-like effects and abuse potential.
