A Cat C license is a type of license that allows drivers to operate Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) over 3.5 tonnes, but not exceeding 32 tonnes. This license is also known as a Class 2 license. Drivers with a Cat C license can drive rigid body vehicles, which are vehicles where the cab is permanently fixed to the trailer. The license is required for drivers who want to do more local deliveries than large vehicles. The license also allows drivers to tow a trailer with a maximum authorized mass of no more than 750 kg. Obtaining a Cat C license requires drivers to be at least 21 years old and hold a driving license for Category B. However, drivers may be younger than 21 if they are undergoing or have completed mandatory training for a Driver Certificate of Professional Competence. The license is the entry-level HGV license and is one of the most frequently sought-after licenses that recruiters and haulage firms look for from candidates.
