A Festbier is a German-style low fermentation beer that is very similar to lagers in its blonde color but also in the fact that it is fermented at a cooler temperature than ales. It is a relatively soft and limpid beer that is brewed mainly with Malt Pilsner but can be supplemented with other types of malts such as Vienna malt or Munich malt to enrich the malt flavors of the beer. Festbiers are fermented in the same way as Lagers, with bottom fermentation. They are a modern-day Oktoberfest beer that is strong, golden, and easy to drink, with a great, long-lasting white head. Festbier is a style that came to replace the Märzen lagers served during Oktoberfest in the late twentieth century. It was developed and pioneered by Paulaner and debuted during the festival in the early 1970s. Today, Festbier is THE Oktoberfestbier on the Wiesn.
