A grimoire is a book of magic that contains instructions on how to create magical objects, perform spells, charms, and divination, and summon or invoke supernatural entities such as spirits and demons. It is also known as a "book of spells," "magic book," or a "spellbook". Grimoires can be traced back to the dawn of writing and have been found all around the world, ranging from Jamaica to Sumatra. The term "grimoire" is believed to have originated from the Old French word "grammaire" ("grammar"), which initially referred to all books written in Latin. Grimoires can be used for personal religion, to connect more deeply with gods, and to record spells for later use. They can be any size, and each witch will have their own version of what a grimoire is and will construct theirs accordingly. Grimoires can be made from a variety of different materials, including printed papers in a binder, a beautifully decorated journal, or a file on the computer.
