HUMIRA (adalimumab) is a prescription medication administered by injection under the skin. It is a biologic drug that reduces the signs and symptoms of moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis (RA), such as joint swelling, pain, and fatigue. It is also approved for the treatment of psoriatic arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis, juvenile idiopathic arthritis, Crohn’s disease, uveitis, and hidradenitis suppurativa. HUMIRA can be used alone, with methotrexate, or with certain other medicines. It is available in either a prefilled syringe or an automatic “pen” injector. Patients can administer it themselves in the comfort of their own home. Before injecting each dose, the injection site should be cleaned with rubbing alcohol, and new injections should be given at least 1 inch (2.5 centimeters) from an old site. Injection training support is always available, and patients can get step-by-step instructions for injecting HUMIRA. The loud “click” means the injection has started, and the injection is complete when the yellow indicator fully appears in the window view and stops moving.
