An Ironman race is a long-distance triathlon race organized by the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC) . The full event consists of a 2.4-mile (3.9 km) swim, a 112-mile (180.2 km) bicycle ride, and a marathon 26.22-mile (42.2 km) run, all to be completed in that order and within a time limit of 17 hours with cut off times for each leg. Participants who finish within the time parameters achieve the prestigious title of "Ironman". The Ironman format remains unchanged, and the Hawaiian Ironman is still regarded as an honored and prestigious triathlon event to win worldwide. There are hundreds of Ironman races around the globe, and thousands of people compete in an Ironman event every year. The Ironman World Championships are held in Kona, Hawaii, every year. The term "Ironman" when referring to triathlons actually refers to a specific branded event. Ironman is a trademarked name, so an Ironman triathlon is not only a specific distance triathlon but also a triathlon put on by a specific company called Ironman.
