Bovine gelatin is a protein-based gelling agent that is colorless, translucent, flavorless, and brittle. It is derived from collagen, a protein material extracted from animal tissue such as skin and bone, through partial hydrolysis. The gelatin molecule is made up of amino acids joined together by amide linkages in a long molecular chain. Bovine gelatin is used as a jelling agent in pharmaceutical drugs, food, photography, vitamin capsules, and production of cosmetics. It is also used as a stabilizer, thickener, texturizer, fat replacement, gel capsules, and binding agent. Bovine gelatin is available in different bloom strength, viscosity, and mesh size to meet application requirements. It is available in bovine skin/hide and lime bone gelatin, and the lime bone gelatin is EDQM certified and EU approved, food and pharmaceutical-grade available. Bovine gelatin is non-GMO, kosher, halal, GRAS, BSE, EDQM, and EU certified. It is used in health care products, beverages, nutrition bars, tablets, meat products, and gummies. Bovine gelatin has a shelf life of more than five years when stored in a cool dry place.
