Brokeback Mountain is about the complex, secret romantic relationship between two cowboys, Ennis Del Mar and Jack Twist, who meet while herding sheep on Brokeback Mountain in Wyoming in 1963. The two men form a deep emotional and physical bond during that summer. Afterward, they separate to live conventional lives—Ennis marries Alma and has children, and Jack marries Lureen and pursues a rodeo career. Despite their efforts, they secretly reunite over the next two decades, struggling with societal pressures, their own fears, and the limitations imposed by their circumstances. Their love remains passionate but fraught with pain, longing, and missed opportunities. The story ends tragically with Jack's death, which Ennis suspects may have been a hate crime, leaving Ennis to mourn the loss of what might have been.
