A chair car is a type of passenger car on a train that has pairs of chairs with individually adjustable backs on each side of the aisle. It is also sometimes referred to as a coach car. In India, there are different types of chair cars available on trains, including:
-
AC Chair Car (CC): An air-conditioned coach with five seats in a row, used for intercity day travel. The old model coach is in a 3+3 type configuration, while the new model coaches are in a 3+2 type configuration.
-
Executive Chair Car (EC): An air-conditioned coach with spacious seats and legroom. With four seats in a row, it is used for intercity day travel and is available on the Tejas, Shatabdi, Double Decker, and Vande Bharat Express trains with further different variations.
-
Independent Arm Chair Car (EA): This is the most expensive coach, with a 2+2 configuration and individual TV screens. However, none of the TV screens were working during one travelers experience.
The seating arrangements in chair cars are classified into three types: Window Side (WS), Middle (M), and Aisle (A). Only Window Side (WS) seats are mentioned in the ticket, and Middle and Aisle seats are not mentioned.
