EcoBoost is a series of turbocharged, direct-injection gasoline engines produced by Ford and originally co-developed by FEV Inc. (now FEV North America Inc.)
. These engines are designed to deliver power and torque consistent with those of larger-displacement naturally aspirated engines while achieving up to 20% better fuel efficiency and 15% fewer greenhouse emissions

. EcoBoost engines work by using three advanced in-car technologies:
- Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing (Ti-VCT) : This technology adjusts the opening and closing of both the intake and exhaust valves continuously during engine operation, maximizing torque and power at peak demand and minimizing fuel consumption during part-load operation
- Turbocharging : Energy from the engine exhaust is used to rotate a turbine, which is coupled to a compressor that pressurizes incoming air into the combustion chambers, generating a virtually instantaneous surge of on-demand power and significantly increasing output per liter
- Direct Fuel Injection : This method delivers a precise amount of fuel in a fine mist directly into the combustion chamber, maximizing the power output
EcoBoost engines are available across the Ford vehicle lineup, ranging from 1.0 liters to 3.5 liters in size
. They are found in various Ford models, including Ford Fiesta, Ford Focus, Ford Fusion, Ford Mustang, Ford Taurus, Ford Escape, Ford Edge, Ford Flex, Ford Explorer, and Ford Expedition
