The EFI (Extensible Firmware Interface) system partition, or ESP, is a partition on a data storage device that is used by computers having the Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) . It is usually around 100MB and is formatted with a file system based on the FAT file system. The ESP contains the EFI boot loaders and other tools that are required when your PC is in trouble. When a computer is booted, the UEFI firmware loads files stored on the ESP to start installing the operating system and any other utilities required. The ESP is required to boot into the operating system, and it also contains several other tools that are required when your PC is in trouble. The ESP is created during the OS installation, and OEMs also use it for other crucial components like drivers, utilities, etc. . The ESP is similar to MBR but can support more partitions and more types of partitions. It is not recommended to delete the ESP as it is required for GPT to boot, and without it, the computer wouldnt know how to boot the operating system.
