Eggshell paint is a type of paint finish that falls between matte (or flat) and satin paint sheens. It is a low-luster finish with a slight gloss that reflects more light than matte to produce a soft glow. Eggshell paint is popular for many good reasons. It is an attractive, one-size-fits-all paint sheen that draws out the best in a paints color. At the same time, eggshell is cleanable and somewhat resistant to wear and tear. Here are some common uses of eggshell paint:

• Walls: Eggshell paint works especially well for walls in bedrooms, living rooms, hallways, offices, and finished basements. It can even be used on ceilings.

• Woodwork: Eggshell paint is a great finish to use for woodwork such as skirting boards, doors, or metal such as radiators and furniture.

• Medium-traffic areas: Eggshell paint should be used in areas with medium traffic, such as living rooms, dining rooms, and offices.

• Low-traffic areas: Eggshell paint is also commonly used in low-traffic areas like hallways, entryways, and family rooms.

Eggshell paint is durable and washable, but not as much as high-gloss paint. It adds more dimension to a room compared to a flat finish. Flat paint is not easy to wash either. You can say eggshell is the best of both worlds. However, eggshell paint may not be appropriate for high-traffic areas or on constantly touched objects, such as kitchen cabinets and bathrooms, where a gloss finish is more suitable.
