The "GSH" on the Chicago Bears orange jerseys stands for George Stanley Halas, who was the founder and original owner of the Chicago Bears franchise. Halas was also a former player and served as the teams head coach four different times. He wore the No. 7 jersey, which was retired - one of 14 numbers the Bears have retired. The "GSH" patch was added to the left sleeve of every players jersey in 1984 to honor Halas, who passed away from cancer in 1983. The Bears are still owned by the Halas family, primarily by his daughter Virginia McCaskey. His grandson, George McCaskey, is the Bears current chairman.
