Indecent dressing refers to the act of wearing clothes that are not appropriate for a particular occasion or situation, and deliberately exposing ones body to the public in a way that is contrary to the acceptable norms and values of society. It involves dressing to show parts of the body that should be covered by clothes, such as the breasts, buttocks, or underwear. Indecent dressing is considered a social malady and a form of moral decadence that depletes the moral fiber of society. It is prevalent among youths, particularly young ladies, who dress to look attractive, appealing, and emphasize their natural beauty. Examples of indecent dressing include crop tops, mini skirts, micromini skirts, waistlines, open shoulders, and many more.

Indecent dressing is a major cause of various assaults and sexual harassment recorded in society over time. It is also a cause of juvenile delinquency and can lead to rape and other forms of sexual violence. Peer pressure is one of the factors that make young ladies dress indecently, as they see their friends dressing that way and getting all the attention, leaving them with none. Schools and parents can play a role in addressing indecent dressing by introducing dress codes to regulate and put students in the right way to dress.

It should be noted that the definition of indecent dressing is subjective and varies across cultures and societies. While there is no law that specifically criminalizes indecent dressing in Nigeria, indecent acts or indecent exposure are illegal under Section 231 of the Criminal Code. However, the Sharia Law, which is only applicable in 12 Northern States in Nigeria, frowns at indecent dressing, and the punishment for its contravention ranges from a couple of months imprisonment to an option of fine.
