On Truth and Reconciliation Day 2025 (September 30), in Halifax:

• City Hall will be lit orange from Monday to Wednesday in recognition of the day and Mi’kmaw History Month.
• The Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre will host activities for all ages from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., including interactive cultural demonstrations and refreshments.
• A flag-raising ceremony with the mayor’s proclamation will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at Grand Parade.
• Shopping malls like Halifax Shopping Centre and Mic Mac Mall will be open with reduced hours (9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.).
• Most grocery stores will be open, but NSLC (liquor stores) will be closed.
• Public transit runs on a holiday schedule with a moment of silence at 2:15 p.m.
• Halifax Public Libraries and municipally operated recreation facilities will be closed.
• Some cultural events such as story time for children and film screenings at museums will take place.
• On-street paid parking will be free that day.

Government offices, public schools, and regulated childcare will be closed, but businesses are not required to close and often remain open with some reduced hours.
