Sexual sin is a term used to describe any type of sexual expression outside the boundaries of a biblically defined marriage relationship. The New Testament word most often translated as "sexual immorality" is porneia, which means "a surrendering of sexual purity" and is primarily used of premarital sexual relations. Sexual immorality includes any type of sexual expression outside the boundaries of a biblically defined marriage relationship, such as adultery, premarital sex, pornography, and homosexual relations. The Bible is clear that sex was created to be enjoyed between one man and one woman who are in a covenant marriage until one of them dies. Any expression of it outside those parameters constitutes an abuse of Gods gift and is considered sinful.

Here are some examples of sexual sins mentioned in the Bible:

  • Fornication
  • Adultery
  • Polygamy
  • Rape
  • Incest
  • Homosexuality
  • Bestiality
  • Prostitution
  • Pagan sexual activity

Sexual sin is harmful to our relationship with God, harmful to our own bodies, and harmful to one another. The root of sexual sin is pride, which is the rejection of the Creator in order to sexually consume others for the benefit of the self. The most powerful weapon in the fight against sexual impurity is profound humility, which is a deep realization and embrace of the truth that we are not our own.
