In the 2002 book Coraline and the 2009 stop-motion animation horror fantasy film Coraline, the Beldam (also known as the Other Mother) is the main antagonist). The Other Mother is a creature that takes the form of a kinder, happier, more openly affectionate version of Coralines own mother. Coraline stumbles upon the Other Mothers realm through a door in the living room of the familys new home, an apartment house they share with several other odd inhabitants. Her "Other World" is a more colorful and entertaining version of the real world, where the adults cater to her every whim and constantly tell her how much they love her. However, the Other World is an illusion and the magical life being offered is a trap. Once Coraline is charmed, the Other Mother offers her the option to stay forever, if only she allows her eyes to be replaced with buttons like the other inhabitants. The Other Mother is actually a seme tryst that inhabits a realm used for luring and unsuspecting children to feast on their souls.
