The United Nations has been working to de-escalate the Israeli-Palestinian crisis by engaging key actors and providing aid to affected populations in the region. The UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process and the Secretary-Generals Personal Representative to the Palestine Liberation Organization and the Palestinian Authority is the focal point on the ground for UN support in all political and diplomatic efforts related to the peace process. Top UN officials, including the Office of the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, are engaging with parties to the conflict and key stakeholders to de-escalate the conflict. The UN is urging all parties to spare civilian lives and stop targeting civilians. UN agencies, such as UNWRA, are providing aid to affected populations in Gaza and the West Bank. The UN is also working to ensure access for humanitarian staff and supplies into Gaza. The UN peacekeeping mission in Lebanon, UNIFIL, is monitoring the security situation along the Israel-Lebanon border. The UN has a deconfliction mechanism in place to try to avoid Israeli strikes on UN facilities in Gaza.
