Ultra-wideband (UWB) is a short-range, wireless communication protocol that operates through radio waves. It uses a wide spectrum of several GHz and operates at very high frequencies, making it ideal for relaying a lot of data from a host device to other devices up to about 30 feet away. UWB is capable of capturing highly accurate spatial and directional data, making it useful for applications such as logistics, healthcare, and manufacturing. UWB works by sending billions of pulses across the wide spectrum frequency, and a corresponding receiver then translates the pulses into data by listening for a familiar pulse sequence sent by the transmitter. UWB is also extremely low power, making it ideal for use in devices such as smartphones. UWB can potentially be used in everything from wireless printers to contactless payments. UWB is already incorporated in some smartphones, including the Apple iPhone 11, 12, 13, and 14, the Samsung Galaxy Note 20, Galaxy S21, Galaxy S22, Galaxy S23, Galaxy Z Fold 2, Galaxy Z Fold 3, and Galaxy Z Fold 4, and the Google Pixel 6 Pro 7 Pro.
