The Red Arrows are the aerobatics display team of the Royal Air Force (RAF) based at RAF Waddington. They fly distinctive Hawk fast-jets, which are fully aerobatic, low-wing two-seat training aircraft that are still used in a number of roles for the RAF. The Red Arrows have been displaying since 1965, and all display pilots have flown operationally in frontline aircraft such as the advanced Typhoon. The Red Arrows have transitioned from using red-painted biplanes to jet-powered aircraft, including the Folland Gnat and the BAE Systems Hawk. The Folland Gnat was the Red Arrows display aircraft for many years, but it was replaced by the BAE Systems Hawk in 1979. The Red Arrows have flown almost 5,000 displays in 57 countries, as of the beginning of 2023, which was the teams 59th season.
