Incoming students at Fanshawe College (FSW) are offered a comprehensive Sexual Violence Prevention program designed to educate them about preventing sexual violence. This includes:

• Mandatory presentations during student orientation, especially for those moving into residence, where students receive information on gender-based violence, the myths and stigma associated with sexual violence, barriers to reporting, and how to access campus and community resources for support

• The Sexual Violence Prevention Coordinator and Advisor provide confidential support and guidance, including referrals to medical care and counseling services

• Educational workshops and trainings such as Student Leader Training, presentations adapted for academic classes, and social programs running monthly from September to April that focus on education, dismantling barriers to support survivors, and promoting healthy relationships

• Students learn about recognizing sexual violence, affirmative consent, bystander intervention, and the intersectionality of sexual violence with issues like racism and homophobia

• Residence students receive welcome packages with information on sexual violence prevention and resources available on campus and in the community

This multi-faceted approach ensures incoming students are informed and supported in preventing sexual violence and promoting a safe campus environment at Fanshawe College
