As of today, Monday, October 23, 2023, there is no current storm on the East Coast. However, on September 23, 2023, Tropical Storm Ophelia brought heavy rainfall and strong winds to the mid-Atlantic region, causing power outages in North Carolina and parts of the mid-Atlantic. The storm packed maximum sustained winds of 70 mph with higher gusts and affected areas hundreds of miles beyond its center with several inches of rain as it trekked up the coast. A hurricane watch was issued for portions of eastern North Carolina, and storm surge watches and warnings stretched from Surf City, North Carolina, to the Chesapeake Bay. Areas along the coast also saw hazardous storm surge and coastal flooding, strong rip currents, and rough surf.
