Cannabis was legalized for recreational use in Canada on October 17, 2018. This made Canada the first major world economy and the second country in the world, after Uruguay, to legalize recreational cannabis nationwide. The Cannabis Act (Bill C-45) came into effect on that date, allowing adults aged 18 or older to possess up to 30 grams of dried cannabis, share it with other adults, and cultivate up to four plants for personal use, with some provincial variations.
