The New International Version (NIV) Bible was first published in its entirety in 1978. The translation project began in 1965 when a group of scholars agreed on the need for a new contemporary English translation. The New Testament portion was initially published in 1973, followed by the complete Bible in 1978, with later revisions in 1983, 1984, and a major revision in 2011.
